A Charles Percier Coloring Book
Discover the diverse and extraordinary creations of French architect and designer Charles Percier (1764–1838) in this coloring book, which features 19 selected designs, many from the magnificent book Receuil de decorations interieures (1801–12), which he published with his architect partner Pierre Fontaine. At first the Receuil plates were meant to be hand-colored, but the publication was so expensive that it found few buyers and is best known today in black and white. Continue the historic tradition of hand-colored prints by adding your own color to these pages, which demonstrate Percier’s unique, complex, and ever-evolving artistic style. His work brilliantly inaugurated nineteenth-century France and did much to illuminate a path to modernity.
This coloring book is inspired by the exhibition Charles Percier: Architecture and Design in an Age of Revolutions on view at the Bard Graduate Center Gallery from November 18, 2016 to February 5, 2017.
